It offered a salt-free five-course  meal to patrons, and this fork was the star of the show. The salty taste is triggered by an electric current generated by the piece of cultery. The fork can also mimic sour, bitter and metallic taste sensations. They haven’t made one which emulates a sugary taste, however.

Researchers at Tokyo University developed the fork, and a patron at the restaurant said he was shocked by how realistic the salty taste was.

The restaurant pop-up was put together by advertising firm J. Walter Thompson’s Japanese division.

The fork isn’t yet up for retail, so for now to try it, you’ll gave to go to Tokyo.
